Privacy

Overview

The George Washington University Medical Center (GWUMC) and Rockpointe profoundly respect and are deeply committed to protecting the privacy of our users. We created this policy to inform you how your personal information is processed and used, and to reflect our commitment to protecting that information. We pledge that we will use your personal information only in ways that are compatible with this Privacy Policy. The following policies are in effect for the Web pages owned and operated by GWUMC, Rockpointe, or MeetingCast.com, a service of Rockpointe.

General Information Collected on All Visitors

Information on all visitors is gathered collectively for each of our Websites. Examples of such data collected are: how many unique user sessions exist; what days exhibit the greatest traffic; what are the most frequent locations of entrance to our sites; and what services and areas users visit the most. This data is only used in the aggregate. We may share this information with our partners for co-branded pages, but only in the aggregate. The purpose of this data collection is to determine how we can create a better overall experience for our users. Those of our partners who request this data are also interested in understanding how they can create a better experience for you.

Specific Information Collected About You

On certain occasions, such as when you sign up for a notification service, register for a webcourse, elect to receive continuing education credit, or purchase a product, we need more specific information about you such as: your first name, last name, title or degree, address, phone number and/or fax number, affiliated institutions, email address, and if purchasing a product, credit card information and expiration dates. On occasions when you request technical support, we may need further information such as: type of computer you are using, your operating system, and the speed at which you connect to the Internet.

Whenever we request identifying information from our visitors, we will clearly indicate the purpose for the request. We use this information to process your requests, register you for programs, fulfill product orders, make you aware of additional products and services, which may be of interest, or to contact you regarding site changes. We will not send you email that you have not agreed to receive.

How Information About You is Collected

When a visitor requests a page from within the Rockpointe network, our Web servers automatically recognize the visitor's domain name and IP (Internet Protocol) address. The domain name and IP address reveal no personal information about the visitor. This information is used only in aggregate form, as described above, and our Web servers do not record email addresses of our visitors.

When you register for a webcourse or program at one of our sites, a "cookie" is sent to your computer. Cookies are small pieces of data that are sent to your browser from our Web server, and are stored on your computer's hard drive. Cookies do not harm your computer; they are used to identify which pages you have visited so that on your next visit, those pages will be readily available to you. For example, if you complete a registration process for a particular webcourse, the next time you access the program you will not have to go through the registration process again. Cookie collection is performed so that you will have a more streamlined web experience.

You can, however, choose not to accept cookies by changing your browser settings. You can direct your browser to refuse all cookies, alert you when a cookie is being sent, or accept all cookies. If you choose not to accept cookies, some of the features we offer may not work as intended.

Protecting Your Information During a Purchase

When you purchase products or services, we need to collect more detailed information about you, as described above. Credit card information is submitted via industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encrypted servers. SSL codes the information transferred between you and the Secure Server, so that it is unreadable to unauthorized parties who may try to intervene in the purchasing process.

Rockpointe does not place your credit card information in our databases. All such purchase information is received and kept by Bank of America, who is responsible for encrypting, processing, and storing purchase order information.

Feedback, Contact and Program Surveys

We have areas on our sites where you can submit feedback on a program by filling out a program evaluation survey. We also have areas where you can offer comments through a contact page. Any feedback submitted becomes the property of GWUMC. We may use this evaluation data for marketing purposes or to contact you for further feedback on the site or program commented upon.

Information Disclosure

Neither GWUMC nor Rockpointe will disclose personal information about your visits to our sites except in cases where such information is either necessary for you to receive educational credit from an accrediting or certifying agency, or the law requires such disclosure in order to:

  • comply with a legal process served on on GWUMC or Rockpointe;
  • protect and defend the rights or property of GWUMC or the Rockpointe network of sites or visitors to Rockpointe;
  • identify those who may be violating the law, the terms of use, or the rights of third parties;
  • cooperate with investigations of alleged unlawful activities.

On-line Privacy in General

Many of our sites contain links to other Websites and neither GWUMC nor Rockpointe is responsible for the privacy practices or content of such websites.

Please be aware that whenever you disclose personal information over the Internet, that that information is accessible to the public and can be collected and used. As a result, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties who accessed your information.

You are ultimately responsible for maintaining your privacy while on-line.

Consent

By accessing our Websites, you consent to data collection and use as specified in this policy. If we decide to change our privacy policy for Rockpointe, we will post those changes here so you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information, and whether we will disclose it to anyone. If you have questions or concerns about this privacy policy, please feel free to email us at contact@rockpointe.com.
