PowerPoint Files Instructions:

The supplied PowerPoint files have mpeg-1 files inserted into the slides. In order for the presentation and movies to work correctly both PowerPoint and mpeg movies files must be in the same directory.

Retrieving Files from the Website

Create a new folder on your desktop or My Documents folder, etc.

When accessing the PowerPoint Downloads from the Animations section, select the file(s) you desire and save it in the new folder you just created.

When finished saving all of the files you want, go to the folder where you saved all of the zip files and unzip them all in the same folder. This is a good way to ensure all of the appropriate files are together and the presentation will work properly.

Presenting the PowerPoint files

After you open up a PowerPoint file, you'll notice that upon advancing to a particular slide, a still of the first frame of the mpeg movie is visible

You can play the movies in Power Point two ways:

A. Choose View Show (F5) from the Slide Show menu bar

Then advance to the slide you want to present
Depending on your version of PowerPoint you will have to press your Enter or Page Down key twice on your keyboard.

For the movie clip to play you must advance to that particular slide. It should start automatically, if not, refer to your version of PowerPoint help manual on advancing and presenting a slide show.

B. If you are not in slide show mode, scroll to a slide and with your mouse double click on the image on that slide. The mpg movie should begin playing. To stop the movie after it has started playing click on the movie once. To resume click on movie again.

Instructions for Unzipping Files
If you encounter problems opening a zipped file, please download WinZip.

Once you have downloaded the zip file to your desktop, an icon of it will appear on your desktop.
  • Double-click on the icon.

You will need to take the files out of their compressed, or zipped, format. To do so, simply click on the button at the top that says "Extract."

When you click on the "Extract" button, a pop-up window will appear asking where to put the unzipped files.

Save the file to your desktop.

    • Step 1: Scroll to the top of the "Folders/drives" window, where you see the word "Desktop."

    • Step 2: Click on "Desktop" or on the plus sign (+) next to it. The word "Desktop" will be highlighted and the list will expand to show all the items on your desktop. In the window to the left—beneath where it says "Extract to:"—it will now say "C:\WINDOWS\Desktop."

    • Step 3: Create a new folder on the desktop, where you can place the files. To do this, click on the "New Folder" button at the bottom right. If there is no "New Folder" button in your zip program, there should be an icon for creating a new folder. Typically, this icon is a folder with a star or asterisk on it.
After clicking on the "New Folder" button, another window will open asking for the name of the folder.

Name it something that will be easy for you to remember.
  • Click "OK."

The top window will now close.
  • Click on "Extract."

You will see a "progress bar" at the bottom of the window showing the progress the computer is making as it unzips the files; you may also see a box that says "Extracting" and a picture of pieces of paper moving between a folder and the zip.

Depending on the speed of your computer, this process will take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Once this process is complete, close the WinZip window by clicking on the "x" at the top right of the window.

Your desktop will now have both an icon of the zipped files and a new folder.

You have now successfully "unzipped" the file.
